of dementia

All praises to Allah.and peace be upon His messenger.


Today there was a guy who came in to the clinic (of which I am doing my GP placement at the moment)for a review of his medications. He was around 80 years old and he came in with his wife who seems to be around his age as well.He has quite a number of medical problems and is taking heaps of medications just to keep going.

While he was there, the doctor did a mini mental examination (a series of test to check for any impairment in brain function) too as it appears that the guy might have had started developing symptoms of dementia (or dalam bahasa melayu nye ialah 'nyanyuk'). The test had shown that he does actually have a bit of dementia signs and symptoms.

What had really got my interest on this particular patient was that when he was asked to write a sentence, as part of the mini mental examination, he wrote this:


"I have a really nice wife"


And that was such an 'awwwww~' moment in that consulting room.eventhough he has started to become demented (he didnt even know what year is it now), at least he can still remember his kind-hearted wife who has been very patient with him.good on ya mate.
